Working great and looking lovely! True antique lighting from a large North Carolina antique lighting collection - see our store for more! These are original antique light fixtures by Faries, made during the late 1800's to early 1900's when homes were transitioning from gas powered lights to electric.
These were made with both gas and electric so that the homeowner could use gas when the electricity wasn't available (it was unreliable for a time). The top socket was originally for gas, and it has been converted to electric. The brass has been polished to bring back their original shine.
They have not be lacquered, so you can install them, wipe the fingerprints, and allow them to gain a lovely patina over time. Or you can spray them with a lacquer to keep the shine - we leave that up to you, as everyone has different preferences. The upper sockets are all Hubbell. The lower sockets are P&S (Pass & Seymour), Perkins and GE. The smaller shade holders are marked with the Faries patent dates of 1890 and 1896 in their catalog #13. The glass shades have no chips or cracks. If you prefer a different style of antique glass shades, send us a message, as we may have another set of antique shades in a different style that we can suggest as a period correct option. Each fixture uses two standard-base light bulbs up to 60 watts, or use LED bulbs for any brightness you like as they use low wattage.
A nice lighting option is shown in photo#10 using a flicker flame bulb in the upper socket to mimic the original gas flame. Light bulbs and installation screws not included. Each wall canopy has a few normal hairline cracks in the brass around the edges, and one has 2 tiny holes and a crack, which can be turned up/down/to the side depending on where it is hung to not be noticed. Total height of each including glass shades: 15. Depth from the wall including shades: 11.
Wall mount canopy diameter: 4. Shade heights: approximately 4 1/4" and 5".Shade widths: 4 3/4" and 7 1/4". The shades have fitter edges for 2 1/4" and 4" holders. You're going to LOVE these! Please see all photos for detailed description.
