Antique Bookmark / Page Marker Gilt Brass Polished Agate SEA MONSTER LEVIATHAN

  
An antique Victorian gilt brass novelty bookmark / page marker. The top is modelled as a sea monster / Leviathan with open mouth holding a beautiful sphere of polished blue Agate. Identifying Marks / Makers Marks. Age / date of manufacture. Measures 4 1/4 (10.75 cm) long. The sea monster measures 2 1/4" (5.75 cm) from the Agate sphere to the end of the tail and is approximately 3/4" (just under 2 cm) across at the widest point (from the lower jaw to the back of the head). In fair antique used condition. The polished blue Agate sphere has a small imperfection on the surface (too small to photograph), this looks like a semi-circular scratch but when viewed with a magnifier is a small piece missing with a crease line (looks like a natural fault in the stone), otherwise it is undamaged. I have not polished this piece as I prefer the aged patina, it has some tarnish and originally had a gilt finish which is worn in places.
